Job Description

  • Working under the direction of the Utility Billing Clerk/Municipal Court Clerk, with supervision of the City Secretary.
  • Supports the City Staff by performing routine clerical and customer service functions including answering phones and directing calls as necessary, greeting walk-in customers, responding to general inquiries, accepting and recording payments, processing incoming and outgoing mail, and maintaining files and filing.
  • Supports the Utility Billing department by answering account-related inquiries for customers, collecting utility payments, entering water meter reads, opening and closing service orders, posting transactions, balancing cash drawers, and preparing bank deposits.
  • Supports the Municipal Court by answering related inquiries, data entry, receiving and posting court payments, preparing files and dockets for court cases and proceedings, issuing court notices and summons, aiding with preparing documents and assembling court dockets.  May be required to stay one night a month for Court.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as required. 

    Requirements/ Qualifications

  • High attention to detail
  • Typing speed/accuracy
  • Professional communication skills- must be able to respond to inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.  Must be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to operate Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Class C driver’s license
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Some college is preferable, but not required. 
  • Two years of clerical experience in a customer service environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • English/Spanish: Bilingual speaking ability preferred but not required.

Job Description

The City of Leonard is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Performs all police duties for the City of Leonard. Responds to various calls related to traffic, law enforcement, crimes against persons or property and other assistance/enforcement activities of the Leonard Police Department. Follows all department policies and procedures. Maintains professional and effective interaction with the public. Strives to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of the general public.

Job Requirements

Applicant must comply with all standards set forth in Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, Part VII.

Chapter 217 Licensing Requirements, Rule 217.1 Minimum Standards for Initial Licensure.

  1. Must be a citizen of the United States.
  2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  3. Must hold a high school diploma or a general education development certificate (GED).
  4. Must currently be licensed as peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
  • Commission shall have never denied or revoked a license by final order.
  • License cannot be currently on suspension.
  • A surrender of license cannot be currently in effect.
  • Must not have received less than an Honorable Discharge from any agency where applicant was previously employed under a license issued by the Commission.
  • Must not have violated any commission rule or provision of the Texas Occupation Code Chapter 1701.

Military a plus with Honorable Discharge (copy of DD-214 required).

Leonard Police requires services 24/7. Applicant must be able to work any shift, to include weekends and holidays. (Currently the department is working 12-hour patrol shifts).

Must hold a valid Texas Driver’s License with a clear driving history for the past two years.

Applicant Must Successfully Complete the Following:

Personal history background check with in-depth criminal, civil, administrative, and driving background.

Examination by a psychologist who is licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists with more than 180 days separation.

Job Description

The Public Works employee is responsible for the operation of a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and for performing manual labor activities as needed and/or required by the Public Works Department. The City of Leonard Public Works employees work a variety of tasks to include but are not limited to parks, streets, sewer, water and building maintenance. The position requires operation of City of Leonard-owned vehicles, such as pick-up trucks, backhoes, bucket truck, personnel lift, street sweeper, dump truck, roller, zero turn mowers, brush hog/shredder, jet machine, as required. The operation of power tools and equipment, hand tools, chain saws, air compressors, when required is also necessary. Working around moving equipment and machinery is required. The candidate will be required to inspect and repair equipment as required by department procedures as well as be able to make repairs to roads, curbs and sidewalks as required.

 

The applicant will mow grass, prune trees and hedges, and plant flowers and trees as required. There is a requirement to clean City offices, garage areas and park facilities, as well as clean up litter and empty trash cans. Maintenance of sanitary and storm sewers and making repairs and/or conducting routine maintenance procedures is required Sweeping and cleanup of debris and materials from the roads and other areas will be required. Conducting other job-related duties is required. Public Works employees must be able to work in extreme weather conditions such as in extreme heat and cold to include wet rainy and icy conditions.

 

Requirements for the position of Public Works Employee

A valid state issued driver’s license (for the operation of any equipment while on-duty) and social security card is required. The ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently is required.

The candidate will be required to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting heavy objects, and working in all types of weather conditions. Applicant will be required to lift fifty (50) pounds regularly and seventy-five (75) pounds occasionally. Safety procedures and practices are required, as well as wearing safety equipment. A good working relationship with coworkers and the general public is a necessity. The candidate must be able knowledgeable in a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks.

Candidates who possess current Wastewater and/or Water license(s) and/or experience in Wastewater and/or Water will receive preference in the selection process.
