Emergencies 911

Each dog, cat and ferret in the City’s jurisdiction must be registered by the City of Leonard Animal Control. Registration is an important means of identification and can help to return lost pets to their owners quickly. A person keeping a dog, cat or ferret in the City’s jurisdiction must have the animal vaccinated against rabies before it can be registered. Additionally, the animal must be re-vaccinated each year, or every three years with an approved three-year vaccine. Failure to vaccinate and register a dog, cat or ferret may result in fines or penalties

Dogs running at large is a continuing issue in the City. Not only is this potentially dangerous to your dog – accidents with cars; encountering rabid animals – it can cause other problems for you – summons; boarding fees; problems with neighbors. If your dog is picked up by animal control, effort will be made to contact you, but they cannot find you if the dog is not wearing a collar or if the tags are not current. Attach tags to collar and put the collar on your dog when outside on your property.

Animal licenses may be purchased by completing an Animal Registration form with City Hall, proof of rabies vaccination must be provided at time of registration.
